23 Top Questions to Ask While Touring Wedding Venues

23 Top Questions to Ask While Touring Wedding Venues

It’s easy to become overwhelmed while touring wedding venues.  Some brides are so taken with the beauty of the venue that they forget to ask some very important questions.  Print this list and write in the answers at every venue you visit, so you can truly compare your choices after all of the tours.

  1. Be sure to go to the venue! You can’t make a decision on web photos alone, especially for outdoor weddings. It’s a good idea to try to tour at the time you plan to get married. The position of the sun before, during, and after your wedding will affect the comfort of you and your guests during the ceremony as well as affect your favorite areas for photographs. If the venue is outside near water, mosquitoes and cold air may be an issue.

  2. If the venue is primarily an outdoor venue, ask what their rain plan is.

  3. While visiting indoor venues, take note of the shape of the room. A strange shape may interrupt the flow of the party.

  4. Does the venue have an in-house caterer? Can you bring in any of your choosing, or is there an exclusive catering list? Will the in-house caterer cook to suit children, special diets, and ethnic tastes?

  5. Do they have a coat check & ample bathroom facilities? What is the parking situation?

  6. Is there a reception package & what does it include?

  7. Do they have enough chairs, tables, utensils, glasses, etc., for your guests or must you rent each item from an outside vendor? These costs really add up fast when you have to rent every fork, spoon, napkin, etc.!

  8. How long can you have the reception space for? Is there an overtime fee if you go over? Is there a minimum amount of time it must be rented?

  9. Is there a wedding coordinator who will be there on the day of your wedding? If so, what exactly are their responsibilities and what will fall into your or your planner’s hands? An experienced wedding planner can make your day a breeze.

  10. What is the payment schedule? What is the down payment? Are there any hidden costs? When are payments due? If planning an outside wedding, consider how many different vendors you will have to contract, direct and pay during your wedding.

  11. Will there be another wedding before/after yours? Will any other events be happening at the same time as yours?

  12. Are there kitchen & cooking facilities? If you hire an outside caterer, who will cleanup after the meal? Who will take out the trash after the ceremony?

  13. Is there a dress code you must inform your guests of?

  14. Do they have their liquor license? Can you bring in our own alcohol? Do they have a bar? If not, can you set one up? If you are bringing your own alcohol, who will serve your guests? Who will provide glasses, ice, etc?

  15. Is smoking allowed?

  16. Is the place air conditioned/heated?

  17. Are there regulations about what kind of music can be played? Must the music end at a certain time? Is there a decibel restriction? Do they have their own sound system? Being forced to end your wedding early because of a neighbor complaint would really put a damper on your day.

  18. Is there enough room for a band or DJ & dancing? Are there ample electrical outlets? Is there a dance floor?

  19. Is there a place for the bride & groom to change & relax? Are the bride and groom areas separated? Are the rooms big enough to hold wedding party and family? Can the wedding party get ready here on the morning of the wedding? Are there mirrors? Bathrooms? Space to hang dresses?

  20. Where are the best places for photographs?

  21. How much decorating will you have to do for this venue? Who will clean up the decorations?

  22. If the reception is at a different site from the ceremony, what is the distance? Do they have the same style? Can they accommodate the same number of guests?

  23. Is the venue accessible for elderly or handicap?

Danielle and Matthew"s Indoor Wedding in Frederick

Danielle and Matthew held an intimate indoor wedding in Frederick, Maryland at Morningside Inn. The winter wedding ceremony was held in the lower level of the main building. This level is lined with windows, providing guests wonderful views of the rolling hills and ponds on the property. The bridal party posed for many wedding photographs even in the cold weather. Danielle and Matthew posed on the outdoor pavilion which overlooks the old willow tree and one of the ponds in the back of the inn. Sunset provided soft orange glow to many of the wedding photographs. The couple chose a two-tier wedding cake with red icing and ivory ribbons and bow. Guests were encouraged to use silly face masks for pictures posted to the couple’s Instagram account.

Congratulations Danielle and Matthew!

John and Sandra"s Frederick Wedding

John and Sandra’s wedding was held at Morningside Inn on June 12, 2015. The couple and their guests enjoyed a clear sunny day for their Frederick wedding. The outdoor wedding ceremony was held on the outdoor pavilion overlooking green rolling hills and the three ponds on the property. The bridal party posed for many wedding photographs as they prepared for the wedding in the bride’s room. The groom and his groomsmen prepared for the wedding in the large groom’s room in this rustic country retreat located in Frederick, Maryland. This couple wrote their own vows as seen in the heartfelt moments during the ceremony as they recited the moving words to each other. A rustic tack board held the heart shaped seating cards. As the guest witnessed the wedding ceremony, they fanned themselves with personalized paddle fans provided by the couple. The natural setting of Morningside provides endless locations for outside wedding photographs including a huge willow tree, three ponds, flower gardens, and the long winding stone wall at the entrance. The reception was held in the window-lined lower level of Morningside Inn. The first dance is captured in the video and displays the large dance floor and the guests enjoying the reception.

Morningside Inn is a great location for a Frederick wedding with an outdoor wedding ceremony area, plenty of paved parking, indoor reception and dining areas.  This wedding was held outside, but if the weather had not cooperated, Morningside’s staff would have moved the ceremony inside to the window-lined lower level. Morningside Inn is located on three hundred rolling acres of farmland in Frederick,  Maryland. Every bride at Morningside is provided an in-house wedding planner to help plan their wedding ceremony, reception, and send off, as well as coordinate guests and vendors.

Barn Wedding in Maryland: Pencils’ Weddingbee Blog

Enjoy these photographs from the Pencils’ barn wedding in Maryland at Morningside Inn. The couple enjoyed a gorgeous spring day to pose on the expansive and scenic property after their wedding. This wedding venue has an outside wedding ceremony area, indoor wedding ceremony area (as a backup option), rustic dining room with plenty of windows, and a large reception room with dance floor and bar.

Many brides looking for a barn wedding in Maryland believe they must sacrifice comfort and convenience in order to achieve a rustic country wedding, but this is not the case at Morningside Inn. This country retreat is located on three hundred rolling acres of farmland in Frederick, Maryland and provides a relaxing outdoor wedding ceremony without traffic noise. Only forty-five minutes from Washington D.C., Baltimore, Gettysburg and Northern Virginia, Morningside Inn is convenient for traveling guests. There is plenty of paved parking and the site is handicap accessible. The bride’s room is actually a suite of two adjoining rooms, complete with a full bathroom, steam shower, television, and plenty of seating for the bridal party. The vanity in the bride’s room is open and large enough for the entire bridal party to prepare for the special day. The groom also has a comfortable room to relax with groomsmen before the ceremony. Dinner is served on the first level of the building, afterwards guests enjoy drinks, dancing and cake in the reception room on the lower level. Separating the dining area from the reception allows guests to continue their celebration without the distraction of dinner clean up. Every bride at Morningside is provided an in-house wedding planner to help plan their wedding ceremony, reception, and send off, as well as coordinate guests and vendors on the day of the wedding.

Justin & Tiffanie Summer Wedding in Maryland

Enjoy this photo gallery of a  summer wedding in Maryland at Morningside Inn I found on Pangtography.

Five p.m. was the magic number.

It had been raining and over all gloomy for the most part of the day and with the ceremony scheduled to start at 6 p.m., people were starting to worry. The wedding was going to be moved indoors to the reception area…but then the rain stopped, the sky cleared. I think the sun even came out to bless the wedding of Justin and Tiffanie. They were married by Tiffanie’s best friend and surrounded by their families and closest friends and I was there to capture it all. Here’s a look into their special day at Morningside Inn in Frederick, Maryland.
